Relationships, Sex and Health Education

In line with the new framework, we have reviewed our PSHE curriculum to ensure it remains age-appropriate, clear, and supportive of children’s wellbeing and personal development.

Why is the RSE curriculum changing?

  • National guidance has been updated to ensure pupils learn the knowledge and skills they need for life in a modern, digital world.
  • The new curriculum strengthens teaching on healthy relationships, respect, safety and growing up.
  • The changes aim to help children make informed decisions, stay safe and understand how to build positive relationships with others.

Please find below our current policy for the teaching of RSHE. This links closely to our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) policy

RSHE Policy

At St George's C of E Primary, we follow the Kapow scheme for Personal, Social and Health Education. RSHE is embedded within this scheme. You can find out more information about this scheme by following this link:

Right to Withdraw  Your Child from  Sex Education Classes

Government guidance states that "You cannot withdraw your child from Relationships Education because it is important that all children receive this content, covering topics such as friendships and how to stay safe. Your child’s primary school can choose to teach Sex Education. "  At St George's CE Primary, we have chosen to teach Sex Education within the Year 6 programme.

The Guidance continues..."If you’d like to know more about this, we recommend speaking to the school to understand what will be taught and when. If you do not want your child to take part in some or all of the lessons on Sex Education, you can ask that they are withdrawn. At primary level, the head teacher must grant this request."

In the RSHE Policy  there is a form for withdrawal that you can fill in and then discuss with  the Headteacher. This copy is attached below on this page, and is also available in paper copies from the office. If you require this in a different format to access it please let the office know.

Please note: The science curriculum also includes content on human development, including reproduction, which there is no right to withdraw from.

 Useful Resources

We recognise that parents play a vital part in their child’s RSHE, and we encourage you to discuss the themes of the sessions with your child at home as well. Please find below some useful links to websites and resources that can help make these conversations a bit easier!
