Spirituality

Spirituality is at the heart of our school. At St. George’s, we believe that spirituality encompasses a deep sense of connection, both to ourselves and to the wider world. This is guided by Christian values of love, compassion, and respect.

As a school, we would describe our spirituality as a unique journey. Where our journeys with faith are our own. We value that we all have our own individual viewpoint and understanding and see the importance in coming together as a whole school daily to celebrate and reflect.

As a school community, we view spirituality as:

‘A connection rooted in love, with ourselves, others and God. A connection which supports and helps us to understand the world around us’.

At our school, spirituality is nurtured through prayer, and daily collective worship, where we come together as a community to reflect on our place in God's creation. We encourage our children to explore life's big questions, develop a sense of awe and wonder, and foster empathy and understanding of others.

We use our reflection time to think about:

My head – what have I learnt?

My heart – what impact will this have?

My hands – what am I going to do about it?

Through our curriculum, we provide opportunities for pupils to discover their own beliefs and values while respecting the diverse world around them. Our pupils engage in activities that inspire mindfulness, gratitude, and reflection, helping them develop a sense of purpose and belonging. In Religious Education, they learn not only about Christianity but also about other faiths and worldviews, promoting tolerance and mutual respect.

At St. George’s, spirituality is about helping children grow into compassionate, reflective, and responsible individuals, with a strong moral compass grounded in Christian teachings. We aim to guide them on a journey of personal and spiritual development, preparing them to contribute positively to society and the world.

Through our approach to spirituality, we encourage children to cultivate inner peace, find meaning in their experiences, and nurture a deep sense of care for others and for the environment. We strive to support each child in discovering their unique gifts and talents, and to inspire them to live lives of faith, hope, and love.
